Vinicius Junior apologises for El Clasico outburst
Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has publicly apologised for his conduct during Sunday’s El Clásico victory over Barcelona, where his actions sparked significant controversy both on and off the pitch.
During the match, the Brazilian star, who has roots in Cameroon, was visibly frustrated when being substituted and appeared to clash with head coach Xabi Alonso, expressing displeasure at being taken off.
Following the final whistle, the Brazilian was also involved in a heated exchange with Barcelona’s teenage star Lamine Yamal, reportedly in reaction to comments made by the youngster in a podcast ahead of the game.
The incidents intensified speculation around Vinicius’s future at Real Madrid, prompting the forward to address the matter directly in a statement released on X (formerly Twitter).
“Today I want to apologise to all Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted during El Clásico. Just as I have already done in person during today’s training session, I also want to apologise once again to my team-mates, the club and the president,” he wrote.
Vinicius added that his emotions stem from his deep passion for the club.
“Sometimes my passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive spirit comes from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents. I promise to keep fighting every second for the good of Real Madrid just as I have done since my very first day.”
With his apology, the Brazilian forward hopes to ease tensions and reaffirm his commitment to the club as Madrid continues their push for domestic and European glory this season.
