Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr has condemned the racial abuse of Palmeiras forward Luighi.
Luighi, 18, was racially abused during Palmeiras ’ 3-0 win over Cerro Porteno in the U-20 Libertadores.
The talented teenager was substituted soon after and was seen in tears at the bench.
In a post on Instagram, Luighi said, “It hurts the soul. And it is the same pain that all black people have felt throughout history, because things evolve, but they are never 100% resolved.
He added, “Today’s episode leaves scars and needs to be seen for what it really is: a crime. Until when? That is the question I hope we won’t have to ask at some point. For now, we keep fighting.”
Reacting to the incident, Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr condemned it, insisting that it is unacceptable.
It forms part of the player with Cameroonian roots’ fight against Racism.
In the last few years, he has been fighting racism and calling for an end to the abuse in football and all aspects of life.
