Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has offered glowing praise for Tottenham Hotspur loanee Luka Vuskovic, admitting his admiration for the teenage defender ahead of Bayern’s weekend meeting with Hamburg.
The 17-year-old is currently on loan at HSV from Spurs and has quickly established himself as a key figure during a demanding phase of his development.
Speaking before the clash, Kompany highlighted both Vuskovic’s potential and the challenges that come with learning the craft of a central defender in Germany.
The Bayern coach stressed that the Bundesliga can be unforgiving for young players in that position, given the physical and tactical demands of the league.
In his view, however, Vuskovic’s prominent role at Hamburg represents an ideal environment for growth.
Kompany described the Croatian youngster as a “great talent” and underlined the importance of patience at this stage of his career. He believes Vuskovic’s priority should be to absorb guidance from his coaching staff rather than overcomplicating his game.
“He’s a great talent. The Bundesliga is a very difficult league to develop as a young central defender. You have to be physically strong. Having a key role at HSV is ideal.
“He needs to listen carefully to his good coach. He doesn’t need to do much more. I just hope he doesn’t play well against us this weekend.”
