Villarreal will attempt to bring Paris Saint-Germain’s 10-year unbeaten run in Spain to an end when the sides meet at La Ceramica on Tuesday, 03 November 2026, in the fourth round of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain’s last defeat in Spain came in November 2015, when they were beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the opening phase of the UEFA Champions League. Nacho Fernandez scored the only goal of that match.
Since then, the French side, managed by Luis Enrique, have played five matches in Spain without losing. Their record during that period is four victories and one draw, with all five games coming in the UEFA Champions League.
Barcelona have suffered most during that run, losing to Paris Saint-Germain three times. The first defeat came in the last 16 of the 2020-2021 season, when the French club won 4-1.
Paris Saint-Germain recorded the same scoreline against Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the 2023-2024 campaign. Their most recent victory over the Catalan club came in last season’s league phase, with a 2-1 win.
The fourth victory in that sequence came against Real Sociedad, who were beaten 2-1 in the last 16 of the 2023-2024 season. Paris Saint-Germain’s only draw in Spain since the 2015 defeat was a goalless match against Athletic Bilbao in the opening phase of last season.
Paris Saint-Germain’s record in Spain
Across their previous 11 visits to Spain, Paris Saint-Germain have recorded six defeats, four wins and one draw.
Their first match in the country came in 1993, when they faced Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup, the competition’s former name. Paris Saint-Germain lost that encounter 3-1.
The visit to Villarreal therefore gives the holders a chance to extend a sequence that has lasted since their defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu. Villarreal, meanwhile, will be aiming to become the first Spanish club since Real Madrid in November 2015 to beat Paris Saint-Germain on home soil.
Paris Saint-Germain are the reigning UEFA Champions League holders in each of the past two seasons.
