In an exclusive interview with Corriere dello Sport, Roberto Calenda, the agent of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, sheds light on the intricacies behind Osimhen’s contract extension with Napoli, securing his presence until 2026.
The formalization of Victor Osimhen’s contract extension on Saturday marked a significant development for Napoli, ensuring the talented striker’s services for an additional season.
With the extension tying Osimhen to the Italian club until 2026, the deal includes a release clause, the details of which have been kept confidential.
Roberto Calenda, in his conversation with Corriere dello Sport, addressed the swirling rumors surrounding Osimhen’s potential departure during the last summer transfer window.
Calenda vehemently dismissed these speculations, emphasizing Osimhen’s contentment in Naples and his aspirations to reach greater heights.
“Victor is happy in Naples and wants to go as high as possible (…) I heard that I would have preferred not to renew and transfer him straight away. It was not true,” stated Calenda.
Representing Osimhen’s interests, Calenda clarified that despite substantial offers received last summer, including what he describes as “monstrous ones,” the decision to stay and renew the contract was a mutual choice.
“If there had been a desire to leave, we would have said so,” Calenda affirmed. He further highlighted their joint commitment to renewal, dispelling any notions of a potential transfer during the recent window.
Looking ahead, Calenda expressed a collaborative approach for the future, indicating that discussions with Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, will continue next summer.
“Next summer it will be the same: we will talk with De Laurentiis, and we will see what we can do together,” concluded Calenda.
The revelation sets the stage for ongoing negotiations and reinforces the positive relationship between Osimhen, his agent, and Napoli’s leadership.
