Victor Osimhen found the net for Galatasaray in their Europa League clash against AZ Alkmaar, but his efforts were not enough to prevent the Turkish side from being eliminated.
Trailing 4-1 from the first leg, Galatasaray needed a remarkable comeback at home to overturn the deficit.
However, their hopes were quickly dashed as AZ Alkmaar took a commanding 2-0 lead by the 55th minute, further extending their aggregate advantage.
Just a minute later, Osimhen provided a glimmer of hope, curling in a well-placed shot to reduce the deficit.
The goal marked his third in less than a week, having scored a brace in the domestic league on Monday.
Despite his efforts, Galatasaray could not mount a significant comeback, eventually bowing out of the competition with a 6-3 aggregate defeat.
Osimhen’s stellar form continues
Although the night ended in disappointment for Galatasaray, Osimhen’s individual form remains impressive.
His goal against AZ Alkmaar took his season tally to 20 across all competitions in just 25 appearances.
This marks his best scoring form since the 2022-23 season, when he netted 31 goals.
With at least 13 league games remaining in the Turkish Süper Lig, the Nigerian striker has ample opportunity to further bolster his numbers.
Reaching the 21-goal mark would make this his second-best season, while a push towards his previous personal record remains within reach.
Despite the European exit, Osimhen’s form continues to be a bright spot for Galatasaray as they focus on domestic success.
