Victor Osimhen cleared for Istanbul derby after federation rejects Fenerbahce protest
Victor Osimhen has been cleared to participate in Sunday’s Istanbul derby after the Turkish Football Federation dismissed Fenerbahce’s objection regarding his protective arm brace.
The ruling ensures the Nigerian striker will be available for Galatasaray’s crucial Super Lig encounter against their fiercest rivals.
Fenerbahce had lodged a formal complaint expressing concerns that Osimhen’s protective equipment could present a safety hazard to opposing players. The club referenced equipment regulations and submitted medical documentation to strengthen their argument.
Despite these concerns, the federation sided with Galatasaray, allowing the forward to feature in the high-stakes fixture. Turkish pundit Levent Tuzemen criticized the complaint, suggesting Fenerbahce’s objection stemmed from apprehension about facing the talented Nigerian. “I think Fenerbahce’s management is objecting to the bandage on Victor Osimhen’s arm out of fear of the Nigerian star’s presence… I find Fenerbahçe’s objection utterly meaningless,” Tuzemen stated.
Journalist Gurcan Bilgiç offered a more measured perspective, acknowledging the complexity of the situation. “The rules on this matter are clear. Osimhen’s arm is broken. This injury also needs to be protected. But at the same time, the health of the other players on the field must be protected as well,” he commented.
Osimhen has registered 19 goals and seven assists this season, making him vital to Galatasaray’s title ambitions.
