Veteran South African midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo has announced his departure from Cape Town City FC.

The 34-year-old is leaving the club after almost one-year spell as the summer transfer window approaches.

Having returned to South African in 2022 after 12 year spell abroad (including stints at Brentford and FC Cincinnati), Mokotjo made 24 appearances this season for the struggling Citizens. His exit comes unexpectedly as the club faces two critical relegation-battle matches.

“I didn’t anticipate saying goodbye so soon,” Mokotjo posted, expressing gratitude to teammates, staff and fans while hinting at new beginnings. The ex-Sekhukhune United star’s next move remains undisclosed as his sudden availability sparks speculation in the PSL transfer market.

Mokotjo made his debut for South Africa in 2012 and went ahead to feature 23 times for the Bafana Bafana.
