Valencia have turned their attention to signing Mali international Aliou Dieng after a proposed move for Argentine midfielder Guido Rodriguez from West Ham United fell through.
The Mestalla outfit are keen about strengthening their squad following an inconsistence performance in the current campaign, with Dieng, who plies his trade for Al Ahly now emerging as a target.
This comes after a disagreements between Valencia and West Ham over the signing of the Argentine midfielder.
Valencia could not meet West Ham’s demands, and the disagreements have become irreconcilable over time, even though 31-year-old Guido Rodriguez was the ideal choice given his knowledge of the Spanish league and his ability to make an immediate impact, which is what coach Carlos Corberan has consistently demanded since the first meetings.
Currently, the Spanish club is focused on signing Dieng to strengthen their midfield, and are keen to complete the deal with Al Ahly.
Meanwhile, Valencia must meet the financial demands of the Egyptian club before securing the signature of the midfielder.
Per reports, Valencia have already submitted an offer in the region of €500,000 for th signing of Dieng.
But the Egyptian giants are reluctant to part ways with the Malian midfielder at the moment, as he remains a key part of the team’s plans, making negotiations difficult for the Spanish side.
Meanwhile, it is unknown whether Valencia will return with an improved offer to lure the midfielder before the closure of the window.
Dieng has made eighteen appearances for the Egyptian club across all competitions but has yet to register a goal or assist.
He joined Al Ahly in July 2019 on a five-year contract and has since established himself as akey member of the team. He has won several titles with the club, including the Egyptian Premier League, CAF Champions League, and CAF Super Cup.
At the international level, Dieng has represented Mali in several tournament including the Africa Cup of Nations.
