The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has upheld its decision to dismiss USM Alger’s appeal regarding their contentious forfeit loss in the semi-final first leg of the CAF Cup against RS Berkane. Despite USM Alger’s protestations, CAF reaffirmed its initial ruling, underscoring the body’s commitment to maintaining disciplinary standards within African football.
In a statement released by CAF, the organization unequivocally stated, “The appeal filed by the USMA Club against the decision of the Organizing Committee for CAF Interclub Competitions and the management of the club licensing system dated April 24, 2024 is rejected (…) The decision of the Commission of organization of CAF interclub competitions and management of the club licensing system dated April 24, 2024 is confirmed. All other motions or prayers for relief are rejected.”
Despite the setback, USM Alger proceeded with their scheduled trip to Moroccan soil for the return leg of the fixture against RS Berkane, demonstrating their commitment to participating in the competition.
However, the final resolution of the dispute now rests in the hands of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where USM Alger will seek a fair and impartial adjudication of their grievances.
