USM Alger faces tough challenge against ASEC Mimosas in CAF cup draw

USM Alger faces tough challenge against ASEC Mimosas in CAF cup draw
The draw for the 2024-2025 CAF Confederation Cup group stage was held on Monday, setting the stage for exciting clashes between some of Africa’s top clubs. Led by Congolese coach Florent Ibenge and South African football icon Siphiwe Tshabalala, the draw revealed challenging paths for many of the continent’s elite teams.

Defending champions USM Alger, fresh off their CAF Super Cup triumph over Egyptian giants Al Ahly, find themselves in a competitive Group C. The Algerian side, who are eager to defend their title, will face stiff competition from Ivorian powerhouse ASEC Mimosas.

With a strong pedigree in African football, ASEC will be looking to challenge USM Alger for group supremacy.

Joining them in the group are Senegal’s ASC Jaraaf, who recently sent two of their players to represent the national team, and Orapa United from Botswana, considered the underdogs of the group.

RS Berkane, last season’s runners-up, have been drawn into Group B, which promises to be a tough test.

The Moroccan side, regarded as favorites on paper, will face Mali’s Stade Malien, South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC, and Angola’s CD Lunda Sul.

Berkane’s continental experience will be key as they navigate long away trips to South Africa and Angola, both of which could prove decisive in the group standings.

Zamalek, one of Egypt’s most decorated clubs, finds themselves in Group D with their local rivals Al-Masry SC, setting the stage for a highly anticipated all-Egyptian clash.

The two Egyptian giants will face competition from Nigeria’s Enyimba FC and Mozambique’s Associação Black Bulls. Enyimba, known for their solid performances in African competitions, are expected to be a tough contender, while Black Bulls will be looking to make a mark as the group’s underdogs.

Group A is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in the tournament. Tanzanian side Simba SC, a team more accustomed to competing in the CAF Champions League, will face Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien, a record three-time CAF Cup champion.

Algeria’s CS Constantine and Angola’s FC Bravos complete the group, making it a potential “group of death” with every match expected to be fiercely contested.

The 2024-2025 CAF Confederation Cup promises to be an intense competition with thrilling group stage matchups across the board.

Fans across Africa will be eagerly anticipating the action, as teams from all corners of the continent fight for glory in one of Africa’s premier club competitions.
