A cloud of controversy looms over USM Alger as allegations of impropriety swirl regarding the transfer of Cameroonian international Leonel Ateba. The midfielder’s move to the Algerian club earlier this winter seemed seamless, with Ateba swiftly integrating into the Rouge et Noir squad and making notable contributions on the field, including a stellar performance in the Algerian Cup against MB Rouissat.
However, the harmony surrounding Ateba’s transfer was shattered when his former club, Dynamo Douala, raised accusations of contractual breaches against USM Alger.
Dynamo Douala contends that USM Alger failed to fulfill its financial obligations, prompting the Cameroonian club to lodge a formal complaint with FIFA.
In a statement released on Dynamo Douala’s official website, the club expressed its disappointment, stating, “Despite the multiple reminders, it is clear to date that the Algerian side has not fulfilled its commitments.”
Dynamo Douala alleges that USM Alger has gone silent on the matter, leaving them with no recourse but to seek arbitration from FIFA to resolve the dispute.
However, USM Alger vehemently denies these claims, dismissing them as baseless agitation orchestrated by Dynamo Douala.
Tewfik Kourichi, the sporting director of USM Alger, refuted the allegations, asserting that the club had adhered to all contractual agreements regarding Ateba’s transfer.
Kourichi clarified, “When we completed the transfer, we agreed on payment of the amount through a procedure established last January by FIFA,” further explaining that the delay in payment was due to banking formalities in Algeria.
He emphasized that USM Alger had acted in accordance with FIFA regulations and had initiated the transfer process, assuring that the funds would be remitted to Dynamo Douala once the requisite deductions for training costs were made.
Moreover, Kourichi refuted reports suggesting a transfer fee of €300,000, stating that such claims were unsubstantiated.
He affirmed that Ateba’s contract had been duly executed, with the player committing to a two-and-a-half-year tenure with USM Alger.
As the dispute intensifies, USM Alger remains steadfast in its stance, maintaining its commitment to transparency and integrity in all transfer dealings.
While tensions may persist between the clubs, the ultimate resolution lies in the hands of FIFA, whose arbitration will determine the outcome of this contentious affair.
