USFA secured a much-needed victory in Burkina Faso’s Ligue 1 on Sunday, overcoming Real du Faso 2-1 to climb onto the podium, while Salitas FC endured yet another setback in their disappointing campaign.
Determined to break their poor run of form, USFA took early control of the match.
Jean Noufe opened the scoring in the 6th minute, giving the Armed Forces club an early lead.
Their momentum continued as Ismael Sawadogo doubled the advantage in the 26th minute, sending USFA into the break with a comfortable cushion.
Despite their lead, USFA faced a late scare when Cheick Soudré, coming off the bench, pulled one back for Real du Faso in the 78th minute.
However, the hosts held on to secure the three points, ending a five-match winless streak in the league.
The victory lifts USFA to third place with 34 points, though their position remains temporary as AS Douanes (32 points) are yet to play their fixture on Monday.
Salitas’ poor form worsens
Meanwhile, Salitas FC’s struggles show no signs of easing.
The club suffered its fourth consecutive defeat, falling 2-0 to Etoile Filante de Ouagadougou.
The visitors dominated proceedings, with Kader Sana opening the scoring in the 16th minute before Dobouran Zio sealed the victory in the 81st minute.
This latest setback marks the first time Salitas have lost by a two-goal margin since their 3-1 defeat to Rahimo FC on November 10, 2024.
The loss leaves them precariously positioned on 22 points, level with Etoile Filante de Ouagadougou, and just one point above the relegation zone.
Sunday’s Ligue 1 results:
- Real du Faso 1-2 USFA
- Salitas 0-2 Etoile Filante Ouagadougou
- Sporting Cascades 1-2 Vitesse FC
- Majestic SC 1-0 RC Bobo-Dioulasso
- ASF Bobo-Dioulasso 1-1 ASEC Koudougou
With the battle for league positions intensifying, all eyes will be on AS Douanes’ upcoming match, which could reshape the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Salitas will need a drastic turnaround to avoid being dragged into the relegation fight.
