The incident occurred during the International Champions Cup final between Real Madrid and Chelsea on August 7 in the United States. A 20-year-old student named Ronald Gjoka ran onto the pitch to embrace his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo reciprocated by hugging him, preventing the police from arresting him.
After the incident, stadium security decided to press charges against Gjoka for trespassing and disorderly conduct. These charges could potentially lead to his expulsion from the University of Miami and deportation to his home country, Albania.
In response, Cristiano Ronaldo wrote a letter to the prosecutor, pleading for leniency and requesting the charges against the young Albanian to be dropped. The Real Madrid striker expressed understanding for enforcing rules and laws but asked for reconsideration in this case.
