Union Tataouine’s relegation from the Tunisian Ligue 1 was confirmed on Saturday following a 2-1 defeat to Stade Tunisien in the penultimate round of the season.
The loss at Stade El Menzah leaves Tataouine at the bottom of the table, sealing their drop to the second division without the need to rely on other results in the final round.
Stade Tunisien started the match aggressively, looking to seize control early.
Their pressure paid off just eight minutes into the contest when Nasif Atoui found the back of the net, handing the hosts a crucial early lead.
The situation worsened for Tataouine in the 28th minute, as Bunhor Mugisha calmly converted a penalty to double Stade Tunisien’s advantage, giving the visitors a mountain to climb.
Despite the setback, Tataouine showed more urgency in the second half as they attempted to claw their way back into the match.
Their efforts finally yielded a goal in the 57th minute when Hosni Kazmir struck to reduce the deficit, briefly sparking hopes of a comeback.
However, Stade Tunisien managed to hold on to their advantage, securing all three points and further deepening Tataouine’s relegation woes.
With this defeat, Union Tataouine remain rooted to the bottom of the standings with just 19 points from 29 matches, confirming their relegation to the second tier after a challenging campaign.
Stade Tunisien, on the other hand, moved up to sixth place with 49 points, rounding off a solid season.
