Union Berlin rethink Stanley Nsoki transfer after defensive reinforcements
Union Berlin are reportedly reconsidering plans to permanently sign Stanley Nsoki despite earlier indications suggesting the defender would remain at the club.
According to reports from Germany, the Bundesliga side could now decide against activating the purchase option in Nsoki’s loan agreement from TSG Hoffenheim. The clause is believed to be worth around €1.5 million.
The uncertainty surrounding the French defender’s future is largely linked to the arrival of new head coach Mauro Lustrinelli, who is expected to implement a back four system at the club. The tactical adjustment could reduce the importance of having a naturally left-footed central defender in the squad.
Union Berlin have also strengthened their defensive options ahead of the new season with the expected arrivals of Zeno Van Den Bosch from Royal Antwerp and Marvin Friedrich from Borussia Mönchengladbach. While both transfers are yet to be officially confirmed, reports indicate the deals are virtually completed.
The arrival of the two defenders has intensified competition at the back and placed further doubt over Nsoki’s long-term future with the club.
The 27-year-old had initially appeared set to continue his stay in Berlin, but the changing tactical plans and fresh additions to the squad have now made a permanent transfer far less certain than previously expected.
