Union Berlin hesitate on Hoffenheim loanee Stanley Nsoki

Union Berlin’s future with center back Stanley Nsoki looks uncertain.

The center back, on loan from TSG Hoffenheim, was expected to stay permanently, but that may change.

Reports from Bild indicate new head coach Mauro Lustrinelli prefers a back four over Union’s long-established three-man defense, which has major implications for defensive planning.

Union must rebuild after losing Diogo Leite and Danilho Doekhi, yet incoming reinforcements include Leopold Querfeld plus Zeno Van den Bosch and Marvin Friedrich, reducing reliance on Nsoki.

Nsoki still has an offer from Berlin but has not signed it. Just a month ago, Union seemed poised to trigger the €1.5 million buyout clause and secure him long term.

The 27-year-old center back arrived on loan last summer, struggling with injury early on before carving out regular minutes in the second half of the season due to Leite’s absence. He finished with 13 competitive appearances, showing decent performances despite some uncertainties. Whether he becomes a permanent member of Union Berlin remains unclear again.
