Unanimous board decision ends Yannick Ferreira’s Zamalek tenure
Zamalek’s board, led by Hussein Labib, has unanimously decided to part ways with Belgian coach Yannick Ferreira after a wave of fan anger and ongoing poor results.
Insiders revealed that pressure peaked following the 1-1 draw with National Bank, which convinced the board the club needed to act to avoid further decline. “It was clear to everyone, Ferreira had exhausted all solutions,” an insider said.
Since the loss to Al Ahly and further disappointing results, fans filled stadiums and social media with calls for Ferreira’s dismissal, frustrated by the team’s lack of control and ineffective tactics. The board moved swiftly, calling for an urgent meeting with Ferreira to negotiate an amicable exit, hoping to avoid triggering the costly penalty in his contract.
Zamalek’s struggles under Ferreira included losing 14 points in just 11 league matches, winning only five, drawing four, and losing two. Adding to the tension, Ferreira skipped a critical post-match press conference, resulting in a league fine for the club.
As the general assembly meeting approaches in December, Zamalek seeks a fresh start and greater transparency for its future.
