Egypt’s U-20 team secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Libya in the third round of the North African qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia.
The win was their first in the qualifiers, boosting their hopes of advancing.
The match began with Egypt dominating possession. Mohamed Zaalouk was a constant threat, firing multiple shots, but Libyan goalkeeper Adam El Mansouri was equal to the task, making several key saves. Despite Egypt’s offensive pressure, the first half ended goalless.
The game shifted in the second half when Omar Khader’s introduction sparked danger for Libya. His header was blocked off the line, and shortly after, Egypt’s goalkeeper Abdel Moneim Tamer made a brilliant save from Ahmed Al-Masmari.
In the 75th minute, Khader’s skill led to a penalty, expertly converted by Kabaka to put Egypt ahead. Libya quickly responded, equalizing through Abdul Aziz Al-Mansouri. But with just seconds left, Abdullah Bostanji’s header from a corner sealed the victory for Egypt, who now sit in second place, two points behind leaders Morocco.
