The Uganda U16 women’s football team has touched down in Istanbul, marking the commencement of their participation in the UEFA friendly tournament hosted by Turkey. Departing from Kampala on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the team’s arrival in Turkey signifies their readiness to compete on an international stage.
Over the course of ten days, from April 9 to 19, 2024, the Turkish Football Federation’s training center in Riva, Istanbul, will serve as the venue for the UEFA U16 friendly tournament.
This inaugural event, organized by UEFA, brings together eight women’s football teams from around the world, with Uganda proudly among the participating nations.
The arrival of Charles Ayiekoh Lukula’s squad in Istanbul on Tuesday evening underscores their eagerness to showcase their talent on the global platform.
The Ugandan contingent, comprising 21 players and 8 members of the technical staff, embarked on their journey from Kampala in the early hours of the morning.
Upon arrival in Istanbul, they were warmly welcomed and accommodated at the Riva camp and training center, administered by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Turkey.
As the tournament unfolds, the Ugandan team is set to face formidable opponents in the form of China, Wales, and Paraguay in the opening rounds.
