Uganda reaffirms commitment to co-host AFCON 2027
Uganda has reaffirmed its readiness to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Tanzania, with the government pledging full support for the landmark continental tournament under the PAMOJA hosting arrangement.
Speaking on behalf of the Ugandan government, Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang delivered a firm assurance on the country’s commitment during high-level engagements with football authorities and regional stakeholders.
“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uganda and on my own behalf, I reaffirm our commitment to host AFCON in 2027 in line with the agreement,” he said.
“I assure you that the three governments are committed to providing the resources required to ensure this tournament takes place as scheduled,” Ogwang added.
The remarks come as preparations intensify across the three East African nations, who are jointly tasked with staging the expanded 2027 edition of Africa’s premier football competition.
Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania are working under the PAMOJA framework to coordinate infrastructure upgrades, logistics planning and tournament delivery systems, with a shared emphasis on meeting Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards.
A CAF delegation, led by Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu, has been engaging with host nation officials to review progress and strengthen coordination ahead of the tournament.
Uganda’s reaffirmation is seen as a key signal of political and financial backing for the project, which is expected to significantly boost sporting infrastructure and development across the region while positioning East Africa on the global football stage.
