Assane Diao brace sends Como to Serie A summit after Genoa win

Senegal international Assane Diao scored twice as Como beat Genoa 4-1 to move temporarily to the top of Serie A after another influential performance from the forward.

Diao, who had already made an impact against Napoli the previous week, continued his impressive run of form by finding the net twice on Friday.

The result moved Como onto seven points and gave the Lombardy club the lead in the Serie A table, at least temporarily.

Genoa made the brighter start and took the lead in the 19th minute, putting Como under early pressure.

Como responded before long, with Martin Baturina restoring parity to make it 1-1.

Diao then completed the turnaround in the 30th minute, putting Como in front and giving the visitors control of the contest.

Nico Paz added another goal before half-time as Como established a two-goal advantage heading into the break.

Diao had more to say in the second half and completed his brace in the 78th minute. The Senegalese forward took advantage of an assist from Moise Kean to seal his second goal of the night and complete a convincing victory for Como.

The assist was particularly notable for Kean, who had only arrived from Fiorentina on Tuesday. The Italian forward was making his first appearance for his new club and immediately contributed to the team’s emphatic result.

For Diao, the performance represents another strong display after his goal-scoring contribution against Napoli the previous week.

His two goals against Genoa have also strengthened his position as one of the players attracting attention at Como as the club prepares for its Champions League debut.

Como’s seven points currently place them at the summit of Serie A, although their position remains provisional.

The victory also provides further evidence of the attacking threat Como can offer, with Diao again playing a central role in their success.

After scoring against Napoli last week, the Senegalese striker has now followed that display with a brace, underlining his current form as Como continue their campaign.

The club will now look to build on the victory, while Diao’s performances have placed him firmly among the players to watch as Como prepares for its Champions League adventure.
