Uganda head coach Paul Put has named a 26-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mozambique and Guinea.
The team selection, announced on Monday, March 10, includes a mix of experienced internationals and emerging talents as the Cranes look to secure vital points in Group G.
The first match will see Uganda travel to Cairo, Egypt on March 20 for an away fixture against Mozambique, while the return leg will be played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on March 25, when the Cranes host Guinea.
With the World Cup dream on the line, Uganda will be aiming to build momentum and keep their qualification hopes alive.
Put has maintained a strong defensive core with Bevis Mugabi (Anorthosis Famagusta, Cyprus) and Timothy Awany (FC Ashdod, Israel) leading the backline.
There are also call-ups for Elvis Bwomono (St. Mirren, Scotland) and Abdu Aziizi Kayondo (Slovan Liberec, Czech Republic), who add further depth.
The midfield features Khalid Aucho (Young Africans, Tanzania) and Allan Okello (Vipers SC, Uganda), both of whom are expected to play key roles in dictating play.
The attack will be spearheaded by Steven Mukwala (Simba SC, Tanzania) and Muhammad Shaban (Al Anwar Al Abyar, Libya), with support from Denis Omedi (APR FC, Rwanda) and Rogers Mato (FK Vardar, North Macedonia).
Put’s selection also highlights a blend of local and foreign-based players, with several homegrown talents, including Kenneth Semakula (Club Africain, Tunisia) and Ronald Ssekiganda (SC Villa, Uganda), making the squad.
Uganda faces a tough challenge in Group G, where consistency will be key. A strong performance in these two matches could significantly boost their chances of competing for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
