Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye returns to Nigeria squad after betting ban
Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has returned to the Nigeria squad for the crucial 2026 World Cup playoff following his betting ban.
Nigeria missed out on automatic World Cup qualification, and are set to participate in a playoff to determine their fate for the tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The playoff structure sees Nigeria face Gabon on November 13, while Cameroon takes on DR Congo. The winners will compete on November 16 for a spot in the intercontinental playoffs.
Okoye returns to challenge Stanley Nwabali for the number spot following the completion of his two-month betting ban.
The Italy-based goalkeeper recently returned to the pitch after serving his suspension over betting scandal. His return come as a huge boost for coach Eric Chelle, who is keen on guiding Nigeria to the global showpiece.
