UCL: Kylian Mbappe nets brace to power Real Madrid to 2-1 victory against Olympique Marseille
France forward of Cameroonian descent, Kylian Mbappe, starred with two goals on Tuesday night, leading Real Madrid to come from behind to secure a 2-1 victory against Olympique Marseille in the UEFA Champions League.
The in-form forward changed the game for Los Blancos after Timothy Weah had given Marseille a surprise lead in the 22nd minute with a well-taken strike inside the box. Mbappe quickly responded seven minutes later, slotting past Geronimo Rulli to level the game at 1-1.
Real Madrid faced further adversity in the 72nd minute when Dani Carvajal was shown a straight red card following a VAR review. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Los Blancos pushed forward and were rewarded in the 81st minute.
Mbappe calmly converted from the penalty spot, sealing his second goal of the night and Madrid’s hard-fought win.
The victory sees Real Madrid begin their Champions League campaign on a strong note, with Mbappe once again proving decisive on the European stage.
