German born forward of Nigerian descent, Karim Adeyemi was full of praise for the Borussia Dortmund teammates and the fans following the team’s 3-1 win against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Adeyemi started the game, helping Dortmund to secure an impressive quarter-final second leg victory.
Although it was not enough to send the Germans to the semi-final, Karim Adeyemi believes it was a performance that the team can be proud of.
“It was just incredible — with our fans. They carried us throughout the whole match. We gave it everything. But in the end, it wasn’t enough — we simply collapsed in the first leg,” Adeyemi said in his post-match interview.
The winger continued, “In the return match, the team showed real quality. From the first minute, we attacked aggressively and pressed high. We wanted to score early — and we did. We actually should’ve scored a second within the next five minutes.
“We really got into the game and executed exactly what we had planned, but unfortunately, it still wasn’t enough. We handed Barcelona their first loss of the calendar year. I think at times they looked insecure — you could feel it.”
After the UEFA Champions League quarter-final exit, Karim Adeyemi and his Dortmund teammates are turning attention to the German Bundesliga, hoping to qualify for the European competition next season.
