UCL: Aubameyang nets screamer to seal Olympique Marseille’s 4-0 thrashing of Ajax
Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored an amazing goal for Olympique Marseille on Tuesday night, sealing a massive 4-0 victory for the side in their clash against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League.
The attacker started the game and not only scored but also assisted two goals.
On the matchday, Marseille started on the front foot and went ahead in the 6th minute when Igor Paixao latched onto a precise through ball and finished clinically into the bottom corner. Six minutes later, Paixao struck again, pouncing on a rebound from Arthur Vermeeren’s blocked effort to double the lead with a powerful strike.
Marseille made it 3-0 midway through the first half as Aubameyang turned provider, setting up Mason Greenwood, who showed calm composure to slot past the Ajax keeper.
After the restart, Aubameyang took centre stage. In the 52nd minute, the Gabonese striker picked up a long ball from Paixao, cut inside, and unleashed a thunderous effort into the bottom right corner to score Marseille’s fourth.
It was a trademark strike from the veteran forward who returned to Marseille in the summer transfer window.
He will be playing a key role for the side throughout the 2025/26 football season.
