Senegal’s U-20 team is gearing up with big ambitions for the upcoming World Cup in New Zealand. Striker Ibrahima Wadji, who netted three goals during the African Nations Championship, echoed the strong determination of the Lionceaux de la Teranga.
“We are going to the World Cup to fulfill our patriotic duty. We hope to go far in the competition. Better still, we aim to win the cup. We are not going just to represent Senegal and play supporting roles. We want to leave our mark on the world stage,” Wadji told wiwsport.com.
Although they were runners-up in the African Championship, losing narrowly 0-1 to Nigeria in the final, the team’s journey was impressive. Wadji recalled the challenging start but praised the team’s resilience and motivation:
“It was truly fantastic. Things got complicated from the first match; we were disappointed with the result, but the management knew how to remotivate us. Afterwards, my teammates and I gave our best. We believed we could achieve something great. In the end, we secured a historic ticket to the U20 World Cup. We are very satisfied with our performance.”
Senegal will be one of the teams to watch as they seek to make a significant impact on the global stage.
