Togo’s Junior Eperviers Secure Dramatic 4-2 Win in Morocco to Qualify for U20 CAN
In a thrilling encounter on Saturday, Togo’s U20 team completed a stunning comeback in Rabat, securing a 4-2 victory over Morocco to qualify for the third round of the 2015 U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Trailing 2-1 at halftime after goals from Morocco’s Hicham Khaloua and Nabil Jaadi, Togo faced an uphill battle. Their single goal in the first half came from Didier Kougbenya, who provided hope for the Junior Eperviers. However, despite the tough first half, Togo showed resilience and determination in the second period.
Kougbenya struck again, scoring a brace to level the match, and then Junior Donou put Togo ahead with a well-taken shot into the Moroccan net. To cap off the remarkable turnaround, Mokhtar Nabiema sealed the victory, scoring in the final minute to give Togo a 4-2 win.
This incredible comeback was enough to overcome a 2-0 deficit from the first leg in Lomé, and Togo will now face either Mali or Burkina Faso in the next round of the qualifiers.
The victory in Rabat marks a memorable achievement for the Junior Eperviers as they continue their pursuit of a spot in Senegal 2015. Togo’s remarkable resilience and offensive firepower in the second half will surely be remembered as one of the standout performances of these qualifiers.
