Tunisia U23 Squad Begins Training Camp Ahead of Crucial Morocco Clash
Tunisia’s U23 national team will begin preparations for their upcoming CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN U23) qualifying showdown against Morocco with a training camp starting this Monday, June 29.
Head coach Maher Kanzari has named a 25-man squad for the camp, which will run until July 4 as part of Tunisia’s build-up to the third round of qualifiers. The first leg of the decisive two-legged tie is scheduled for July 19 in Rabat, with a place in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations on the line.
The training camp is a key part of Tunisia’s preparations as they gear up to face a talented Moroccan side in what promises to be one of the most competitive fixtures of the qualifying phase.
Coach Kanzari’s squad draws on a wide selection of talent from across the Tunisian Ligue 1, with several clubs well represented:
From CA Bizertin (CAB): Slimene Kchok, Zoubaier Darragi, Edem Rejaibi, Aymen Derouiche, Achraf Manai, Ali Machani, and Bilel Sadani.
Espérance Sportive de Tunis (EST): Haythem Jouini, Ali Abdi, Wassim Karoui, Wassim Naghmouchi, and Elyes Jelassi.
Club Sportif Sfaxien (CSS): Sabri Ben Hassine, Borhene Lahkimi, and Yassine Meriah.
Club Africain (CA): Seifeddine Jaziri and Nader Ghandri.
Stade Tunisien (ST): Mohamed Ben Ali.
Espérance de Zarzis (ESZ): Mohamed Ali Jouini and Zied Ounelli.
US Monastir (USMO): Zied Machmoum and Wajdi Saidani.
Avenir Sportif de la Marsa (ASM): Khalil Hnid.
Avenir Sportif de Djerba (ASD): Seddik El Mejri.
Stade Gabèsien (SG): Saad Bguir.
The squad is a mix of promising young talents and key players already making names for themselves in domestic competition. Several players, including Haythem Jouini and Saad Bguir, have gained first-team experience and will be crucial in Tunisia’s push for qualification.
The U23 Africa Cup of Nations not only offers continental glory but also serves as a qualification route for the Olympic Games, giving these players a golden opportunity to shine on the international stage.
Tunisia will be looking to return to the U23 CAN after missing out on the previous edition. With a spot in the final tournament at stake, the training camp will be vital for final tactical preparations, fitness assessments, and building team cohesion.
The return leg against Morocco is expected to be played later in July, with full details to be confirmed by CAF.
