Morocco U-20 coach Mohamed Wahbi says the plans to reconduct the draw for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have affected their plans.
After Ivory Coast announced the decision not to host the tournament and also pulled out of participating in the tournament, CAF awarded the hosting rights to Egypt, while Tunisia has replaced the Ivorians.
The continental football governing body also announced its decision to reconduct the draw.
Morocco has now been housed in Group B alongside Tunisia, Nigeria and Kenya.
“The preparations, plan and technical aspects were based on the nature of the opponents, but after the change in the draw and the replacement of the opponents, things changed,” Wahib said in an interview.
“It doesn’t matter if our group in the draw in Egypt is less strong than the one in Côte d’Ivoire, because the goal remains the same: to qualify, regardless of the nature of the opponents.
“The match against Nigeria and Tunisia is very complicated, and we don’t know much about Kenya, but the goal is to qualify for the next round, and after that we will think about the rest of the journey,” he added.
The tournament, scheduled to run from 27 April to 18 May 2025, will feature 13 nations battling for continental supremacy and four qualification spots to the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Chile 2025.
