U-20 AFCON champions South Africa to take home $200,000 as prize money

The South Africa U20 team have walked away with a lucrative prize of $200,000 as prize money for winning the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

South Africa shocked the favourites, Morocco, 1-0 on Sunday at the Cairo International Stadium with Gomolemo Leviy Kekana scoring the only goal in the 70th minute.

It was revenge for South Africa, who were in the repeat of the 1997 Afcon final, where Morocco defeated Amajita 1-0 in the final.

The South African youngsters have also qualified for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup, set to take place later this year in Chile, as one of the four U20 AFCON semi-finalists representing the continent at the global event.

Meanwhile, Morocco who were in the final will still take home a still respectable $150,000.
