Tyrique George has been named Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year, capping off an impressive season in which he made significant strides at senior level.
The 19-year-old forward has transitioned smoothly from youth football to the first team, making 22 appearances and scoring twice for the Blues in the 2024/25 campaign.
Born in England to Nigerian parents, George represents a growing lineage of dual-heritage talents emerging from Chelsea’s famed academy.
His consistent performances have earned him a place in Enzo Maresca’s matchday squads throughout the season.
George has appeared in every one of Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League matches so far, starting seven out of eleven and showcasing his development on the European stage.
He scored his first senior goal in the away win against Legia Warsaw, before making his mark in the Premier League with a crucial equaliser against Fulham in April.
That goal proved decisive, sparking a comeback that ultimately secured a key victory for Chelsea in their league campaign.
George’s combination of technical skill, work ethic, and composure in the final third has impressed both coaches and supporters alike. His award places him in esteemed company.
The Chelsea Academy Player of the Year has been previously awarded to the likes of Mason Mount, Reece James, Fikayo Tomori and Conor Gallagher — all of whom went on to establish themselves as top-flight professionals.
In more recent seasons, recipients have included Billy Gilmour, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall and Alfie Gilchrist.
For George, the accolade not only celebrates his achievements over the past year but also signals Chelsea’s belief in his potential to become a mainstay in the first team.
