Al Gharafa midfielder Ferjani Sassi has expressed his joy following his side’s qualification for the final of the 2024 Amir Cup after a 4-2 win over Umm Salal in the semi-finals on Monday.
The Tunisian international played a key role in the comeback victory that saw Gharafa book a place in Saturday’s final against Al Rayyan.
Speaking to the media after the match, Sassi underlined the importance of reaching the final, both for the team and its supporters.
“We are happy to have made it this far. We know how much this competition means to us and to our fans. Now our focus is on winning the trophy and making them proud,” he said.
Sassi admitted the team didn’t start the game as planned but credited their ability to recover and secure a deserved win.
“It wasn’t a great start, but we managed to bounce back and get the result we needed. The most important thing is that we made it to the final,” he stated.
The former Zamalek star described the semi-final win as a vital step towards lifting the Amir Cup title and believes Saturday’s clash against Al Rayyan will be decisive.
He also issued a rallying call to Gharafa fans, urging them to turn out in full support for the team.
“Your support made a big difference today. We hope to see you all again in the final so we can celebrate winning the cup together,” Sassi added.
Commenting on his future, the 33-year-old revealed that his contract expires at the end of the season but reiterated his desire to continue at the club.
“I hope to stay, but for now my concentration is on the final. I want to give my best to help Gharafa win the title,” he concluded.
