Tunisian defender Omar Rekik linked with potential move back to Anderlecht ahead of 2025 window

Tunisian defender Omar Rekik linked with potential move back to Anderlecht ahead of 2025 window

Anderlecht are reportedly considering a renewed bid to sign Tunisian defender Omar Rekik from Slovenian side Maribor, reigniting their long-standing interest in the 23-year-old.

Rekik, who has previously been on the radar of the Belgian giants during both the 2022 and 2023 transfer windows, remains a key defensive target for the Brussels-based club as they look to bolster their backline ahead of the 2025 summer transfer period.

His consistent performances in Europe and adaptability across the defensive line have continued to make him an attractive option for Anderlecht’s recruitment team.

Currently under contract at Maribor, Rekik has found regular minutes on the pitch, helping to stabilise the club’s defence while continuing his development in a competitive environment.

However, the lure of joining one of Belgium’s most historic clubs appears to be growing, with sources indicating that both the player and his representatives are open to discussions regarding a potential move.

Anderlecht’s interest in Rekik is far from new. The Tunisian international was first linked with a switch to Lotto Park in 2022, followed by another wave of speculation in the summer of 2023. Despite no deal being struck during those periods, the club has maintained a close watch on his progress.

At 23, Rekik is approaching a critical stage in his career, and a transfer to a club of Anderlecht’s stature could provide the platform he needs to take the next step.

The Belgian outfit, known for its emphasis on youth development and tactical discipline, would offer the Tunisian centre-back the opportunity to grow under pressure in a higher-profile league.

While no formal agreement has been reached, the coming months are expected to be crucial. Talks between Anderlecht and Rekik’s camp could intensify as the summer window approaches, with the player’s potential availability already sparking discussions behind the scenes.

Rekik, who has represented Tunisia at the international level, brings with him not only technical quality but also valuable European experience.

His ability to function as both a centre-back and full-back adds to his appeal for a team like Anderlecht, who continue to seek balance and depth across their defensive setup.

The possibility of returning to Belgium, this time with the country’s most decorated club, is likely to be a tempting prospect for the Maribor defender.

With his contract situation providing room for negotiation and Anderlecht’s interest showing no signs of fading, a deal could be on the cards by mid-2025.

As speculation continues to swirl, all eyes will be on how negotiations unfold and whether Rekik will finally don the purple shirt that has eluded him in previous windows.

For both the player and the club, the coming months may prove decisive in shaping the next chapter of his promising career.
