The Libyan Premier League has seen a new addition to its roster despite ongoing security instability within the country, with the Masraty Union Club making a significant signing during the winter transfer window.
The club proudly announced the acquisition of Tunisian defender Ashraf Zouaghi, solidifying its defensive line with the experienced player.
In a statement posted on their official Facebook page, the Masraty Union Club welcomed Zouaghi, stating: “Join us in welcoming the resilient Tunisian defender, Ashraf Zouaghi, arriving from Anwar Club.
After representing several Tunisian and Libyan teams, he finally lands in our fortress, representing our emblem and defending its green colors.”
At 34 years old, Zouaghi has traversed various clubs in Tunisia, including Club Sportif Sfaxien, Union Sportive de Ben Guerdane, and Étoile Sportive du Sahel, before returning to Club Sportif Sfaxien.
He later ventured into the Libyan league through Al-Sweihli Club before his recent move to Anwar Club.
The management of the Masraty Union Club aims to present outstanding performances during the second half of the Libyan Premier League.
Despite the sporting developments, Libya continues to grapple with security challenges.
Just yesterday, fierce armed clashes erupted between armed groups affiliated with the Government of National Unity in the city of Gharyan, situated southwest of the capital, Tripoli.
The skirmishes instilled fear within the city, highlighting the ongoing security concerns in the region.
The Masraty Union Club competes in Group Two of the league alongside Al-Ahli Tripoli, Abu Salim, Al-Ittihad, Al-Olympic, Al-Sweihli, Asaria, Al-Khums, Al-Madina, Al-Bashayer, and Al-Malab Al-Libi.
Despite the security challenges, the addition of Zouaghi to the Libyan football scene signals a continued commitment to the sport’s development amidst the country’s broader challenges.
