Tunisia’s Under-20 national team will take on DR Congo in a friendly match this Friday as part of their preparations for the upcoming Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 14:00 GMT at the Chedly Zouiten Stadium in Tunis.
With the continental competition set to run from 26 April to 18 May 2025, head coach Abdelhay Ben Soltane is using the fixture to fine-tune his squad ahead of a challenging group stage campaign.
Tunisia have been drawn in Group B, where they will face regional rivals Morocco, three-time champions Nigeria, and Kenya.
The squad has now been assembled in full following the arrival of Amenalleh Meherzi, who joins the team from Qatari side Al Bidda SC.
His inclusion adds further depth and experience to a team aiming not only for continental success but also a place at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile next year.
As a reminder, the top four teams at the Egypt tournament—specifically the semi-finalists—will secure qualification to the 2025 U20 World Cup, making Tunisia’s campaign in North Africa all the more crucial.
Tunisia will begin their AFCON journey on 1 May with a high-stakes clash against Nigeria.
That match will be followed by an encounter with Kenya on 4 May, before wrapping up their group stage commitments against Morocco on 7 May.
All three fixtures are set for a 16:00 GMT start.
Friday’s friendly against DR Congo offers Ben Soltane a vital opportunity to assess his squad in a competitive setting, particularly in terms of fitness, tactical cohesion, and individual form.
DR Congo, known for their physical style and attacking flair at youth level, are expected to provide a stern test for the Aiglons de Carthage.
“The Tunisia U20 team begins its preparations for the African Cup of Nations in Egypt, which will take place from April 26 to May 18, 2025.
As part of their preparation for this continental tournament, Abdelhay Ben Soltane’s players will play a friendly match against DR Congo this Friday,” the Tunisian Football Federation confirmed earlier this week.
With expectations high and the margin for error slim, Tunisia will be eager to build momentum and confidence as they eye a strong showing on Egyptian soil—and, ultimately, a place on the global stage in Chile.
