Georges Leekens, the Belgian coach, finds himself at the center of speculation regarding his future role in African football. While initially linked to the coaching position for Togo’s national team, recent reports suggest that he might instead take the helm of the Carthage Eagles, Tunisia’s national team.
The Tunisian Football Federation, following Raymond Domenech’s withdrawal, has reportedly identified Leekens as a potential candidate for the coaching role, especially after the resignation of Ruud Krol. This development indicates a shift in focus away from the Togo national team, where Leekens was previously considered.
If Leekens accepts the position with Tunisia, he would not be succeeding Didier Six as initially anticipated for Togo’s Eperviers. Several other candidates, including French, Dutch, Belgian, and Swiss coaches, as well as local contenders, have applied for the Togo coaching role.
Georges Leekens boasts considerable coaching experience, having previously managed the Belgian national team on two occasions and served as the coach of Algeria in 2003.
