Tunisia international Ali Maaloul made a return from injury return for Al Ahly on Monday evening in the Egyptian FA Cup competition.
The 35-year-old defender lasted 72 minutes as his outfit succumbed to a 3-1 away defeat to Tala’ea El Gaish at the Military College Stadium in Cairo.
The experienced left-back returned to the field for the first time in 10-months due to due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Maaloul wore the armband, with Al Ahly parading the youth team for the clash against Tala’ea El-Gaish.
Goals from Godwin Okwara, Islam Mohareb and Youssry Wahid were enough for the host to snatch a sweet victory of Al Ahly.
His return come as a huge boost for Al Ahly as they prepare for the crucial CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash against Sudanese giants Al Hilal next week.
Maaloul’s current contract with Al Ahly is expected to expire at the end of the season.
He has made 89 appearances for the Tunisia national team, scoring three goals since his debut in July 2013.
