Tunisia’s women’s national team avenged their earlier loss to Morocco with a resounding 4-2 victory in their second friendly encounter on Tuesday, wrapping up their training camp ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Held at the Mohamed VI Sports Complex in Rabat, the match marked a strong response from the Tunisian side after their 3-1 defeat in the first leg last Friday in Casablanca.
From the opening minutes, Tunisia seized control of the game, striking twice in the first five minutes through Yasmine Khenchouch and Salma Zemzem, setting the tone for a high-paced encounter.
Morocco responded in the 15th minute with a goal from Sofia Bouftini, briefly narrowing the gap.
However, Tunisia maintained composure and extended their lead in the second half.
Mariem Houij restored the two-goal cushion in the 72nd minute, before Sabrine Laouzi made it 4-1 just three minutes later.
Doha Madani’s goal in the 80th minute for the hosts reduced the deficit, but Tunisia held on comfortably to claim the win.
The result brought a satisfying end to Tunisia’s training camp in Morocco, which began on April 1 as part of preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Originally scheduled for 2024, the tournament was postponed and will now take place from 5 to 26 July 2025 in Morocco.
“The internship is closed,” the Tunisian Football Federation confirmed following Tuesday’s match, signaling the end of their North African preparations.
This win not only provided a morale boost for Tunisia but also showed promising signs of growth and resilience within the squad.
With goals from four different scorers and a clear tactical response to the earlier loss, head coach Samir Landolsi’s side demonstrated their capacity to adapt and compete against top continental opposition.
Morocco, who had impressed in the first match, were unable to replicate their earlier form despite moments of attacking flair.
Tunisia’s early dominance and clinical finishing proved decisive, ensuring they leave Morocco with a split series and valuable experience heading into a crucial tournament year.
Both teams will continue their respective preparations in the coming months, with the countdown to the delayed Women’s AFCON now firmly underway.
