Tunisia lodges official complaint against referee after draw against Mali

The Tunisian Football Federation officially announced on Sunday that they have filed a complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against Ghanaian referee Daniel Larry Nee Ayi.

The referee officiated the Eagles of Carthage’s match against the Malian national team in the second round of the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Tunisia played to a 1-1 draw against Mali at the Korhogo Stadium in Côte d’Ivoire, failing to secure a win for the second consecutive match.

In an official statement posted on their Facebook page, the Tunisian Football Federation stated, “The Tunisian Football Federation lodged a formal complaint today with the African Football Confederation due to the performance of the referee, Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials, and the match outcome in the game that pitted our national team against Mali.”

The statement went on to say that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent such errors in the future and to ensure the rights of the national team throughout the rest of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Tunisian Federation objected to a moment in the 45th minute when Youssef Msakni, the Eagles of Carthage forward, fell in the penalty area after being pulled by a Mali defender.

Tunisian players contested the decision, urging the referee to consult VAR. However, the Ghanaian referee, Daniel Larry Nee Ayi, allowed play to continue.

The complaint underscores Tunisia’s commitment to fair play and adherence to the rules of the game, as they seek to rectify perceived officiating errors and safeguard their team’s interests in the ongoing African football tournament.
