Tunisia dealt huge blow as experienced midfielder Elyes Skhiri withdraws from squad ahead of World Cup qualifiers

Tunisia has been hit with a major setback following the withdrawal of experienced midfielder Elyes Skhiri from the squad due to injury.

Skhiri, who plies his trade for Eintracht Frankfurt suffered a serious knee injury in his outfit game against Bochum in the German Bundesliga on Sunday.

The 29-year-old midfielder has, however, pulled out from the squad for 2026 World Cup qualifying games against Liberia and Malawi this month.

Meanwhile, the Tunisia technical team led by Sami Trabelsi has decided not to replace the midfielder for the matches.

The Carthage Eagles will travel to face Liberia on March 19 before hosting Malawi on March 24, 2025 in a highly competitive clash.

Tunisia has been impressive in the qualifiers and are currently on top of Group H, accumulating 10 points after four matches.

In a bid to secure automatic qualification to the biggest soccer mundial, the Carthage Eagles will be eyeing positive results from upcoming matches.
