Michel Bastos is set to depart the Emirates and head to Europe, albeit temporarily for this season. The Brazilian player has been loaned to AS Roma from Al-Aïn (United Arab Emirates) until the end of the season.
Roma has confirmed the loan deal, revealing that Bastos joins the team with a loan fee of 1.1 million euros and a purchase option set at 3.5 million euros. Bastos, who served as an attacking midfielder at Lyon from 2009 to 2013, is known for his versatility. He notably played as the left-back for Brazil under coach Dunga during the 2010 World Cup. Additionally, Bastos is familiar with Roma’s coach, Rudi Garcia, having been managed by him at Lille from 2007 to 2009.
Rudi Garcia expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, “I had asked for a left attacking midfielder.” However, he clarified that the transfer was not yet finalized. At 30 years old, Bastos becomes Roma’s second recruit in the winter transfer window, following the departure of Michael Bradley to Toronto and the addition of Radja Nainggolan from Cagliari.
