Senegalese football has been plunged into grief following a devastating car crash involving the team bus of ASC Gadiaga, with authorities now awaiting the outcome of an official investigation into the incident.

According to reports, the accident occurred on Sunday afternoon as the team was returning from a crucial National Second Division fixture in Kaolack. The bus was involved in a serious traffic accident near the village of Bala in eastern Senegal.

Foot Mercato reported, “Senegal is in mourning… On Sunday afternoon, a terrible tragedy occurred while the Senegalese football team ‘ASC Gadiaga’ was returning by bus from Kaolack.”

The report continued: “The team played a decisive match in the National Second Division League, and the team was involved in a traffic accident near the village of Bala, in eastern Senegal.”

Further details from Senegalese outlet Le Soleil indicate that the accident resulted in a significant number of casualties. At least 20 individuals sustained injuries, with seven said to be in critical condition. Tragically, the team’s goalkeeper, Serigne Fallou Dié, succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash as the nation comes to terms with yet another painful moment in its sporting history.
