Disaster struck Calabar, Nigeria, when Inspector Stephen Enang, a dedicated Police officer and die-hard Arsenal supporter, passed away just after watching his beloved team beat Real Madrid in an exciting 3-0 Champions League encounter.
The disaster, which occurred on Tuesday evening at a local viewing center along Abang-Asang Street, serves as a sad reminder of the unexpected manner life can take.
According to eyewitness accounts, Inspector Enang was in high spirits during the match, cheering with exhilaration as Arsenal trounced the Spanish giants.
His joy was infectious—he laughed, clapped, and hugged every goal with the fervor only a die-hard football supporter could.
But after the last whistle, that joy turned into alarm. As the crowd thinned out, Enang sat tight, unresponsive.
Although taken to Akim Police Hospital in a hurry, he was pronounced dead.
From Ekori in Yakurr LGA, Cross River State, Enang worked with the Akim Police Division, a man renowned for being soft, dedicated, and humane.
It was said he was soft in speech, a faithful man, and a fervent football fan.
His sudden demise is a painful reminder of how delicate life is.
While tributes and investigations keep flowing, the football fraternity and Calabar mourn the loss of a committed officer who spent his last moments doing what he loved—cheering Arsenal with all his heart and soul.
