Trabzonspor has been dealt a significant blow as Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu is set to be sidelined for a minimum of a month due to an injury sustained during the clash against Istanbul Basaksehir on February 28, 2024.
The encounter in the quarter-finals of the Turkish Cup saw Trabzonspor emerge victorious with a 1-0 scoreline. However, the triumph was marred by the untimely departure of Paul Onuachu, who had to exit the pitch after 68 minutes due to a contracture suffered during the game.
Subsequent examinations revealed the extent of the injury, indicating multiple fractures that will keep the player out of action for a substantial period, as disclosed in the club’s official statement.
The statement released on Trabzonspor’s official website outlined the nature of Onuachu’s injuries, stating, “When examining our player Paul Onuachu, who was injured and left the match in our A football team’s match against RAMS Başakşehir, a muscle injury (adductor muscle group) in the left groin area and an undifferentiated bone (ulna).
A fracture of the left forearm due to impact was detected. Due to the fracture, our player was warned. A treatment program of at least 6 weeks will be applied. The treatment of our player has been started by our medical team.”
On loan from Southampton for the current season, Onuachu had been a formidable presence for Trabzonspor, registering nine goals and contributing three assists in 19 appearances across various competitions.
The setback comes at a crucial juncture for both the player and the team, with his absence posing a notable void in the squad.
Trabzonspor’s medical team has initiated the required treatment program, emphasizing the importance of a thorough rehabilitation process to ensure Onuachu’s full recovery.
The club and its supporters now await the return of the prolific striker, hoping for a swift and successful rehabilitation process.
