TP Mazembe opponents Medeama target CAF Champions League glory in Tarkwa

Medeama president Moses Armah says his ultimate ambition is to bring the CAF Champions League trophy to Tarkwa as the Ghanaian champions prepare for their historic home debut in Africa’s premier club competition.

Medeama will host five-time African champions TP Mazembe on Sunday at the TNA Stadium in the first leg of their CAF Champions League first preliminary-round tie.

The fixture represents the first time Medeama will play a continental match at home, adding significance to Armah’s long-standing ambition of seeing the club compete at the highest level in Africa.

“I keep on saying, I’m very, very happy, very, very excited all the time. In the beginning, that was my wish, and it’s coming true. I’ve not been there yet until I hold the CAF Champions League in Tarkwa,” Armah told Oti Adjei.

The Medeama president insists the dream remains incomplete until the club can lift the coveted trophy in their home city.

“I’m not there yet, but from the past years, that was my wish. And I said it, everybody heard it, and it’s coming to pass,” he added.

Medeama will hope to take a strong advantage into the second leg in Kinshasa between September 11 and 13.

Progression would set up a second preliminary-round clash against either Club Africain of Tunisia or Djoliba AC of Mali.

The Ghanaian champions are targeting the group stage as they pursue a historic continental campaign.
