Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga has provided insight into the trials he encountered during his recent six-month loan spell at Bundesliga side Augsburg, expressing resilience and optimism as he embarks on a new chapter with Millwall.
The 24-year-old, who has been absent from the Spurs’ Premier League lineup for the past 18 months, sought playing time with a loan move to Augsburg in Germany. However, the journey did not unfold as expected, and Tanganga found himself facing various challenges during his tenure in the Bundesliga.
Reflecting on his experience, Tanganga remarked, “I think in football, it’s a lot of things, it’s not just one thing. Obviously, I came over there injured and they still took me on.” He acknowledged the managerial transition at Augsburg, stating, “The manager was sacked, and the new one came in, and he had his ideologies, and he didn’t favor me in the team, but that’s not a problem, that’s how football goes.”
Undeterred by the setbacks, Tanganga maintained his focus, saying, “I was just keeping myself ready for when an opportunity arises for when I was able to be involved.
Unfortunately, it didn’t.” However, his proactive approach led him to explore other opportunities, leading to his current loan stint at Millwall.
Now donning the Millwall jersey, Tanganga highlighted the progress he has made, noting, “Now I’m here at Millwall, involved in [three] games more than I did at Augsburg, which is progress.”
The defender’s resilience and commitment to staying match-fit underscore his determination to revitalize his career.
As Tanganga seeks to make a meaningful impact at Millwall, football enthusiasts will be keenly observing his journey of resurgence in the English Championship.
