Tottenham Hotspur has decided to abandon its pursuit of Jonathan David, the highly sought-after center forward from Lille, ahead of the winter transfer window.
Despite a stellar season in Ligue 1, in which the 24-year-old Canadian has scored 17 goals and provided 3 assists in just 23 appearances, Tottenham will no longer be chasing the striker’s signature.
David, whose contract with Lille expires in June 2025, had previously been linked with a move to the Premier League club, but according to The Mirror, Tottenham has chosen to focus on other priorities.
This decision comes after a significant investment in their forward line, having spent approximately €80 million on Dominic Solanke last summer.
With that expenditure, Spurs’ management has opted to withdraw from the race for David.
The Canadian international’s future remains uncertain, but FC Barcelona is reportedly emerging as a key contender for his signature.
Sources close to the player suggest that a potential free transfer, accompanied by a substantial signing bonus, could be an appealing option for David.
Meanwhile, other Premier League giants, including Manchester United and Arsenal, are also said to be closely monitoring the situation, further intensifying the competition for his services.
David’s transfer saga is likely to continue into the coming months, with several clubs vying for the forward, who joined Lille from La Gantoise in 2020 for €27 million.
As the winter window approaches, the young striker’s next move promises to be one of the most anticipated stories in European football.
