Tottenham earn first Premier League point as Marmoush misses chances in Nottingham Forest stalemate

Tottenham were held to a goalless draw by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, earning their first point of the Premier League season after defeats by Brentford and Newcastle United.

Egypt international Omar Marmoush started for Tottenham and came close to breaking the deadlock on several occasions, but was replaced in the closing stages as Roberto De Zerbi’s side failed to find a way through.

The result leaves Tottenham with one point from their opening three matches. Nottingham Forest moved on to two points, having drawn one game and lost another in their first two fixtures.

De Zerbi selected Marmoush to lead the Tottenham attack alongside Brazilian forward Savinho, with both players having joined the London club from Manchester City.

Tottenham made the brighter start and controlled much of the early play, using quick passing and attacking movement to test the Forest defence.

Marmoush had the first clear opportunity in the 18th minute when he received a short pass on the edge of the penalty area. He struck the ball firmly, but it flew narrowly wide of the left post.

Tottenham continued to enjoy the greater share of possession as they looked to create openings, while Nottingham Forest attempted to threaten on the counter-attack and through crosses into the area.

Forest nearly took the lead shortly before half-time. Morgan Gibbs-White found space on the edge of the box and sent a shot towards goal, but it lacked power and was comfortably dealt with by Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.

Tottenham resumed their attacking approach after the interval and came close again two minutes into the second half. Savinho tried his luck from outside the area, only for a Forest defender to make a timely intervention and divert the effort away.

Micky van de Ven then missed another opportunity for the visitors in the 56th minute. The defender rose to meet a corner but headed just wide of the right-hand post.

Nottingham Forest appeared to have broken the deadlock in the 66th minute when Nico Williams reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area and headed into the net.

However, the goal was reviewed by the video assistant referee and was ruled out by referee Craig Pawson for handball. The score remained 0-0.

De Zerbi made an attacking change in the 83rd minute, bringing on Dominic Solanke for Marmoush in an attempt to give Tottenham greater threat in the final stages.

Solanke nearly provided the decisive moment two minutes from time, but his header from inside the area rose just over the crossbar.

Neither side could find a winner, leaving Tottenham with their first point of the campaign and Forest with a second from their opening three matches.
